TOP 5 rooftop bar in Budapest - Best ruinpubs and alternative bars in Budapest -

Summer just teared in Budapest, skirts are getting shorter, streets are getting livelier day-by-day, and the outside places are blooming. Garden bars, terraces, tables on the streets are all great to sit down, but the most exciting of all are the rooftop bars, where besides the sunshine and fresh air, we can enjoy a stunning urban view. We show you our five favourite rooftop bars of Budapest.

Liebling rooftop bar

Right next to the popular ruin pub, Fogasház, Liebling has a hided terrace what has been opened last summer but already became important on the list of the outside places. Though it’s not that high above the street, its unique atmosphere will pull you in, as soon as you got to the top of the cockle stairs, wooden panel-work, ivy covered fences. The twirling electro music of Fogasház cannot reach you here if you need some chill, they rather have soft acoustic gigs often. Enjoy the usual wide range of food and drinks of Liebling on this hided spot.

Address: Akácfa street 49-51. Info: Liebling

A38 ship

Artemovszk 38 known as A38 Ship is a discarded Soviet rock carrier ship what evokes the feeling of the socialist industrial atmosphere, but today it’s far much more then this nostalgia. The ship has one of the best concert venue of Hungary, and besides this, it homes a restaurant, a gallery where sometimes you find acoustic gigs, a studio, a bar on the stern and a big roof terrace with a bar and often live performances. It has a stunning view of the University of Engineering, the Liberty Bridge, and all the old buildings of the Danube bank. A real centre of the musical and cultural life of the capital, what got the ‘Best bar on the world’ award by the Lonely Planet in 2011.

Corvin rootop terrace

One of the highest and definitely the oldest roof terrace of Budapest is Corvin Club and Corvin tető on the top of this socialist market building. Live venue, hided bars and rooms, table foosball, and of course there are the iron stairs lead up to the roof terrace. They often have movie nights, screens for big football events and all sorts of cultural events.

360 Bar

On the Andrássy avenue there’s the Párizsi Nagyáruház, where you’ll find 360 Bar, a rooftop bar what probably has the most stunning view of the city. Enjoy your morning coffee in the sunshine, have a refreshing fröccs on the afternoon, or later on the evening, try some good wine and warm your soul with the sunset over the city. Fin chill out music in the background, and have a look at Budapest from up there; right above you there’s the beautiful Andrássy avenue, you’ll see Basilica and the Parliament, a bit further there are Buda Hills, the Castle and Citadel, and the enigmatic roofs of the city all around. The best urban experience, no doubt.

Pontoon is a brand new cultural venue, bar, chill terrace and club right at the foot of Chain Bridge. Though the terrace is not too high above the ground, the view is stunning, especially after sunset when the entire city light up. The bridge is right next to you, the Castle is in front of you, underneath the slowly flowing Danube, these are the background of this place. Pontoon perfectly combines the crazy parties of the clubs, the programmes of cultural venues and the atmosphere of community places. Bring your kids, dogs, bikes, friends and have a look at its music or movie events, pop-up markets, cultural conferences and workshops, or just enjoy a coffee on your own.
